Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes and pre-cancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin. Peel formulas and strengths are tailored to each patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures such as facelifts for a younger look. They may be covered by insurance if they are performed for medical rather than cosmetic reasons.

Dermabrasion removes a layer of surface skin to improve the appearance of facial scarring due to acne, chicken pox, injury or other causes, as well as uneven pigmentation, wrinkles, sun damage, tattoos, age spots and certain kinds of skin lesions. The skin is frozen, typically with a spray, and then abraded with a high-speed rotary instrument for a dramatically smoother, fresher look. After the procedure, it is normal to feel a sensation similar to sunburn for a week or so, at which time most patients are able to return to work. The newly revealed skin will likely appear pinker than usual for two to three months. Patients should be sure to adequately protect skin from sunlight.

Body Lesions

Repeated exposure to sunlight, especially ultraviolet light, can cause a variety of cosmetic and medical problems in our skin. These include telangiectasia (red or purple “spider veins”), uneven pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, thinning of skin, loss of skin elasticity, and melanoma and other skin cancers. The damage our skin suffers from sunlight is cumulative and often gradual, so the effects appear as we age and worsen with time.

As we age, the rate at which our skin sheds and replenishes itself slows down. This leaves a layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin, contributing to an aged appearance. Facials help exfoliate the damaged layer to reveal the younger, healthier skin beneath. Some of the ingredients used can be natural fruits and plant extracts, essential oils, vitamins, collagen and elastin. Facials reduce the signs of aging and can also improve skin conditions such as acne, dry or oily skin, and uneven texture or pigmentation. Facials are tailored to each patient for optimal results.

Laser Hair Removal

Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, women and men who are tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair on the face, back, legs or other body areas may welcome laser hair removal with relief.

Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light. Dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface absorb this light and convert it to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth for up to two years.

Multiple treatments are required for complete hair removal. Treatments are needle-free and do not require anesthesia. Most patients feel nothing more than a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band.

It is possible that some hair will grow back, though it is usually finer and lighter than what was originally removed. There may also be some redness and swelling following the procedure.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to treated wrinkles caused by overactive muscles of expression. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a protein derivative of Botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin agent produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In minute doses, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to temporarily relax the hyperactive facial muscles that produce deep or noticeable wrinkles. In many patients, its effect can last from 4 to 7 months.

The injections are relatively painless and can be given during a short office visit. Within a day or two most people notice a disappearance or reduction of troublesome frown lines or wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also being used to treat the condition of axillary hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating under the arms. Again, it must be reinjected every 4 to 5 months to maintain its beneficial effect.

When skillfully injected, JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel can minimize lines and add to facial volume, creating a more youthful appearance.

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel treatment can be effective for 4 to 6 months. An ongoing treatment plan of 2-3 injections per year will be required to maintain the results.

Fat Injections, Fat Transfer, or Fat Grafts

A common method for improving depressions or deep wrinkles and furrows is the injection of fat. This is a minor surgical procedure in which fat is aspirated or taken from one part of the body such as the lower abdomen, and then concentrated and reinjected into another area to improve a visible skin depression or hollow area.

Fat injections have been shown to be more permanent with less likelihood of absorption. All materials, however, whether collagen or autologous fat, can be absorbed to some extent.
